We spend a lot of time and money on decorations that we pull from the basement, closet, attic, garage and other nooks and crannies so we can enjoy the holiday season. Some items may be sentimental, like an ornament that was on your grandma’s tree when she was a kid, and some could be new, like that outdoor Yoda with a Santa hat that turns on every night at 6 p.m. next to your bushes.
From trees to special stemware, it’s important to store holiday decorations properly, protecting them from scratches, water damage, dust and extreme temperatures.
So you don’t have to bubble wrap the heck out of everything, I’ve put together a list of the most needed storage solutions that can not only protect common Christmas decorations but also save space and look pretty good doing it.
Tree Keeper Pro
If only we all had a closet we could roll our trees into each year so we wouldn’t have to haul it up or down a flight of stairs. While we might not be able to avoid the hauling part, we can make the transportation a little easier. Available in different sizes, this stand compresses your Christmas tree and allows you to roll it into storage laterally or leaned to the side, so you don’t have to dismantle it every year. It comes with a heavy-duty rolling tree stand with four locking caster wheels so it’s easy to move around.
Wreath and Garland Storage Caddy
Improvements’ exclusive storage caddy secures greenery like wreaths and garlands and features wheels for easy movement, zippered sides and a drawstring bottom in case you want to store it in the garage. This is a nice caddy to have, especially if your wreath or garland has lights strung on it, as they’ll be protected from breakage.
Sterilite Tote for Ornament Storage
I really wanted to recommend storage specifically designed for ornaments, but I‘ve found that they just never quite fit my ornaments properly. I don’t know about yours, but not all of my ornaments are spheres. My 6” Santa ornament isn’t going to fit into a standard ornament compartment, so I rely on Sterilite totes for my breakables and I’ve used them for years. You can wrap ornaments individually with tissue or bubble wrap and fit many into one 18-gallon container. You can get a good deal on them when you buy multiples, and they’re available in a number of colors, like this rocket red, so you can color-code your decorations.
Gift Wrap and Ribbon Storage Bag
If you’re like me and care about the presentation as much as the gift itself, you likely have a number of wrapping paper rolls, ribbons, bows, gift bags and tags. Keep your inner-Martha organized by keeping everything you need in one place with this gift wrap storage bag. Add a pair of scissors, a tape dispenser and pens so you’ll be ready to rock the curling ribbon next holiday season.
Outdoor Christmas Décor Storage Covers
For years, a couple families in my neighborhood have been competing for the most elaborate holiday display. At least, I think they’re competing, because every year, it seems they try to one-up each other, even making their own outdoor wooden characters. It’s getting a little Clark Griswold-y. I sure hope they use these storage covers! Available in three sizes, these sacks fully cover outdoor decorations like light-up deer or handmade abominable snowmen so they’ll be looking sharp season after season. They’re made of water-resistant polyester to protect from moisture, which is especially helpful if you keep them in a garage or attic.
Holiday Light Saver Kit
A twisted, tangled, mangled mess. If that’s how you describe your light strands every year, it’s time to get your sanity back. Make hanging icicle lights outdoors or stringing twinkle lights on an indoor bannister easier with this kit that uses a device with reusable bags to keep lights tangle free. Just think, with the time you’ll save unraveling lights, you can sync your outdoor lights display to your favorite college fight song.
China Storage Set
My mom insists on using special holiday dishes as soon as Thanksgiving rolls around, and that means seeing Jolly Old St. Nick on plates, reindeer on glassware and Spode trees on coffee mugs. If you don’t have vast cabinet space to keep these seasonal items stowed all year, check out this china storage set that will protect your special holiday collection.
Microfiber Stemware Storage and Flute Storage Chests
Similar to the fancy plate situation, you might have special wine glasses, goblets for eggnog or Waterford crystal champagne flutes that aren’t part of the typical Tuesday night glassware rotation. Keep them safe for guests to enjoy for holidays to come with these microfiber stemware storage chests and flute storage chests that have soft walls and dividers to separate glasses. Cheers!
