Established in 2009, Humble Design, a nonprofit organization that furnishes the homes of families emerging from homelessness, has serviced over 900 families nationwide. Of that number, 87 have been veterans and their families.
As part of our commitment to veteran causes, Quicken Loans partnered with Humble Design to clean and furnish the home of a veteran.
The process started with an initial meeting between the family and the design team at Humble. The designers interviewed the family, inquiring about everything from their basic needs to how they want their home to look and feel.
The designers then returned to the Humble warehouse to personally pick out furniture and décor, based on their interaction and interview with the family. The warehouse is filled with donated goods from the surrounding community, and it’s used to furnish the homes of families exiting homeless shelters.
Afterward, the team of volunteers from Quicken Loans met the Humble team to load up the vehicles, transport the furnishings to the home, and then furnish and decorate the home. Quicken Loans volunteers were also able to stay and take part in the final reveal to the veteran.
Through their work with hundreds families, Humble Design has found that families who start out in a furnished home are less likely to return to homeless shelters. In fact, 99% of families serviced by Humble Design don’t return to homeless shelters, compared to the 50% of families who do return without the help of Humble.
This level of support and commitment is accomplished thanks to the volunteers who help Humble clean and furnish the homes. Currently, Humble Design services three families a week and hopes to furnish the homes of over 156 families in 2018.
