Quicken Loans, the nation’s second-largest retail mortgage lender, has once again garnered the top spot on IDG’s Computerworld ranking of “Best Places to Work in IT,” the fifth straight year the company has headed the list. This also marks the eighth time the company has ranked #1 and the 13th consecutive year it has made Computerworld’s rankings. This makes Quicken Loans the winningest company in the history of the list.
The Computerworld magazine rankings are an annual list of the 100 best work environments for technology professionals. The final results are based on an extensive questionnaire on company culture, benefits, career development, training and retention. There are also comprehensive surveys of IT workers that weigh heavily in the determination of the rankings.
Quicken Loans Chief Information Officer is Linglong He. She attributed the company’s success to a supportive, innovative culture.
“We are absolutely obsessed with creating a culture that promotes a sense of family, while also encouraging our team to innovate and push the envelope. It is a recipe that has worked tremendously well, as our team continues to set the speed of the game when it comes to creating the best Fintech products in the industry,” said He. “Beyond innovation, our team is extremely active in the community, teaching STEM projects to students at the Detroit Public Schools on a regular basis. When you pair the innovation that is taking place at Quicken Loans with the social impact we are having on the community, it is an immensely powerful thing.”
Quicken Loans technology team is 1,500 members strong. They’ve helped spearhead the rollout of Rocket® Mortgage by Quicken Loans®, the country’s first online, on-demand mortgage experience. In 2016, Rocket Mortgage was responsible for $7 billion of $96 billion in total closed loan volume.
Quicken Loans CEO Jay Farner said that the Technology team is key in providing the company’s clients with the simplest possible mortgage experience.
“Our Technology team understands that to be among the best of the best, we must remain nimble, agile and obsessed with finding a better way,” said Farner. “Rocket Mortgage, the country’s first fully digital mortgage experience, pushed the mortgage industry into the 21st century with the help of our technology team. No matter what their specific area of focus is, the entire team works towards the common goal of making life radically simple for our clients through innovation and passion.”
When they’re not working to push client experience forward, Quicken Loans technology team members are bringing their skills out into the community. Beginning this year, the company rolled out a series of mentoring programs with over 500 Detroit Public Schools students. Broken down by age group, the programs focused on coding and other STEM skills while also providing mentorship to the students.
Quicken Loans is headquartered right in the middle of Detroit’s thriving tech hub. Since the company moved downtown in 2010, Detroit has become a national hotbed in the Fintech sector.
