When you’re a millennial, it can feel like the world is always talking about you. Who are you? What do you want? Why do you love avocados so much? Suddenly, just because you fall between the ages of 18 and 34, you’re the hot button issue on everyone’s minds. Most of the time, though, you just want what everyone else wants: opportunities, the chance to do what inspires you and the ability to have some fun along the way.

For the 2017 edition of “100 Best Workplaces for Millennials,” FORTUNE magazine surveyed over 398,000 U.S. employees and asked them what it’s like where they work. Out of 100 companies, Quicken Loans came in as third in the nation for millennial satisfaction.

After talking to interns, full-time employees and members of senior leadership, this result doesn’t come as much of a surprise. The entire Quicken Loans mentality is structured around giving all team members, including millennials, what they want out of their work, namely an amazing company culture, a chance to have their voice heard and great opportunities to grow.

About millennials in the workplace, Matt Cardwell, the Director of Social Media at Quicken Loans says, “As you grow older, you tend to forget what it was like to be younger. But if you really stop to think about it, it was pretty great. You’re more optimistic, enthusiastic, open minded. You just have a lot of qualities that are very positive. That’s why this particular age group is such a great source of vitality and energy for an organization. When you have an absence of those traits in a team, you definitely notice it.”

Cardwell’s way of thinking isn’t unique at Quicken Loans. It’s reflected throughout the Quicken Loans leadership and is built right into the company’s structure.

According to a survey of 13,300 millennials conducted by LinkedIn for their article “New Insights That May Make You Rethink How You Recruit Millennials,” the number one thing millennials want to know about a company is the culture and values. Millennials understand that a company’s culture is a huge part of enjoying what they do.

Trevor Sundelius, a Technology intern says, “Quicken Loans offers a culture that is very open and approachable. The people who come into the company really reflect that; all the way from recruiting to senior leaders. It’s more than just work. It’s kind of like a family.”

This enthusiasm comes from more than just the culture. At Quicken Loans, everyone understands that there’s always room for improvement and ideas have value, no matter where they come from. When talking to millennial Kevin Irwin II, a Quicken Loans Idea Consultant, his excitement and sense of empowerment is easy to see. He works with a team devoted to bringing employee ideas to life. Irwin says, “To have the ability to let your voice be heard is so important. We are so a part of this organization that we can change the way that we do things. We give our team members a voice and don’t let it stop there. We have a team that hears you and then works to execute on your ideas. To work with an organization that sees value in everyone – that’s amazing.”

Ideas that have been brought to Irwin’s team have led to new startup companies and first-time CEOs. The company RocketFiber originally started as one idea sent from a Quicken Loans banker, and has now grown into an innovative startup. It’s a huge success story and a reflection of what Quicken Loans truly believes. Quicken Loans provides all its team members with tools to succeed and to work on the things they feel passionate about. Age or job title won’t stop someone from really contributing.

In their article “What Millennials Want from a New Job,” Brandon Rigoni and Amy Adkins say, “Our research shows that having a great manager and being part of a great management culture are important to all employees. However, millennials place a greater emphasis on opportunities to learn and grow and opportunities for advancement.”

When someone is just starting out in the workplace, developing capabilities and new skills can be a huge part of what makes work fulfilling. Cardwell understands this desire and ensures that each member of his team has the tools they need to grow. “As a leader, I really think we should be career coaches. I take my one-on-ones very seriously. I spend at least four hours a week on them. Most of the content isn’t even about work, and it lets you understand a person over time and build trust. It makes the person very comfortable to come to you for advice,” he says.

Courtney Niese, another Technology intern, has experienced this chance to learn and develop firsthand. “I know friends who have had negative internship experiences. They put numbers into a budget sheet and that’s it. But here at Quicken Loans, I get to actually work on platforms. I have my own internship project that I’m working on with my team. The interns are being leveraged to work on things that Quicken Loans actually uses.”

The Quicken Loans structure also allows for greater flexibility in defining your role. As a company, they place value on every skill that a new employee has to offer. While Irwin’s official title is Idea Consultant, the projects he touches are everywhere in the company. He has a true passion and talent for exciting others, and during his time at the company he’s become the go-to emcee for all major company meetings. Irwin says, “I believe we all have dreams and goals, far beyond what our resume says we are qualified to do. This organization allows me to express myself. It’s ok to dream, and dream big. When people see that you offer value, they won’t shy away from you. If you tell people ‘this is what I want to do,’ you’ll get your shot. And if you make it, they’ll continue to give you more and more shots.”

After talking to firsthand sources, it’s easy to see how Quicken Loans made it to number three on FORTUNE’s list of Best Workplaces for Millennials. The enthusiasm, the motivation and the sense of empowerment is everywhere. With the talent that’s developing and the company-wide obsession with finding a better way, things will only get more exciting at Quicken Loans.
