This week Quicken Loans partnered with the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) and Habitat for Humanity to build a home for a family in Orlando, Florida. Alongside other volunteers, the team rolled up their sleeves and got to work.
Catherine McManus, president and CEO of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Orlando has been on the front lines of this housing community project, which, when completed, will consist of 59 homes in the Butler’s Reserve neighborhood. After starting their first home in January of 2015, they plan to finish the project in July 2017 – creating new chances at homeownership and security for 59 families in Orlando. These safe and affordable homes are also customized to meet the specific needs and space requirements of each family.
“We’re so excited that Quicken Loans and the National Association of REALTORS® are spending the day helping with painting and landscaping, and really helping to make a difference,” said McManus. “Getting and purchasing a Habitat home is really a jumping off point for so many people. It’s a catapult into their future because a stable shelter makes all the difference.”
Tom Dempsey, Divisional Vice President of National Sales at Quicken Loans, was part of the group that painted the exterior of a home in Orlando. For him and his team members, serving local communities is an incredibly important goal for Quicken Loans. “We’re able to help a lot of clients with financing, but [volunteering is] also very important for us culturally as an organization,” said, Dempsey. “But this event and many events like it are just part of our DNA – it’s who we are and what we do. So giving back is at the top of our list.”
Tom Salomone, president of NAR, attended the build as well, and explains that the National Association of REALTORS® had made it a priority to do a Habitat build each November in the city where their conference is held. “We build the house, and many volunteers kindly help out, giving a lot of sweat and labor in the process,” said, Salomone. “The family that receives the house is normally given a 30-year no-interest mortgage, and this year we’re partnered with Quicken Loans as the sponsor.”
Because of the home-centered focus of the national mortgage lender and the National Association of REALTORS®, it’s fitting that these professionals chose to give back to families in need of a place to call home.
Along with volunteer opportunities, Quicken Loans will also take part in the upcoming NAR Conference and Expo in Orlando this weekend, spending time with agents from around the nation and providing resources to help their businesses. Salomone is especially looking forward to this year’s conference and expo. “I think you’re going to see a lot of excitement because the housing industry is heading out of some tough years. We’ve turned a corner, and we have more buyers than ever before, so I think you’re going to see a lot of enthusiasm.”
Quicken Loans will be at the conference through the weekend, working alongside real estate professionals as they grow in their careers, pursue educational opportunities and check out the latest and greatest things going on in the industry.
