Every year, the color experts at Pantone get together to choose which color will reign supreme in the new year. Past winners include the intriguing Radiant Orchid, vibrant Emerald, and cheerful Tangerine Tango.

This year, the experts went a different route. This year’s color is striking and bold, but still earthy and sophisticated. The 2015 Pantone color of the year is (drumroll please)… Marsala!

Named after the fortified wine that this hue derives from, Marsala is a rich, warm color that appeals to both men and women with its chic natural qualities.

The organic nature of Marsala is highlighted best by matte finishes. Adding some sheen to the finish also shows off Marsala’s luxurious and glamorous qualities.

The earthy tones of Marsala spice up neutrals, especially grays and taupes, while the richness of the color pairs well with ambers and golden tones. Blues and greens really pop off this deep red, too.

Its versatility lends itself to more than just finishes and color combinations; this shade is complimentary on nearly every skin tone. It’s showing up in many 2015 spring fashion and beauty collections!

If you’re looking for a way to incorporate this year’s color into your home, then you’re in luck! Here are 10 great items, from couches to candles, that’ll warm up your home and color palette this year.

Marsala: 10 Ways to Use Pantone’s 2015 Color of the Year in Your Home - Quicken Loans Zing Blog

1. Dish Set

The deep, rich and organic tones of Marsala work well in the kitchen (and really make the colors of your food pop). Incorporate it with a dish set, like this one from Target. At $15, this dish set the perfect way to spice up your dinner table!

2. Art

I love switching up the prints on my walls! It’s an inexpensive way to keep rotating colors and themes. You can add touches of Marsala with simple prints like this floral print from Etsy. I love the blossom effect of the petals. It matches perfectly with Marsala’s natural qualities, yet it’s still elegant. Not a fan of floral? Look for something more edgy or modern to fit with your style.

3. Couch

Make Marsala the star of your living room with a beautiful couch. The deep red is stylish and chic, while the warm brown tones are calming and peaceful. Urban Outfitters provides a great option that’ll make any living room pop!

4. Coffee Cup

I don’t know about you, but I LOVE coffee (no really, I have at least three cups a day). As much as I love coffee, it seems to taste better out of a cute mug like this one from society6. Leave it at home or take it to the office – wherever you use it, you’ll show off Pantone’s color of the year!

5. Ottoman

Add a pop of color and a place to put your feet with a sophisticated, tufted ottoman like the one from World Market! Comfort and style in one!

6. Countertop Appliances

Appliances like toasters, standing mixers and coffee makers are often used and stored on counters, so why not use them as a focal point? Look for appliances in deep reds, like this coffee maker by Black and Decker.

7. Planters and Vases

As mentioned earlier, Marsala has earthy roots, making it the perfect planter for your backyard or vase for some freshly cut flowers! Try a bamboo planter like this one on Amazon.

8. Rug

Rugs have the ability to transform a room, and take it from drab to fab! A Marsala-colored rug, like this one from Anthropologie, will bring a touch of sophistication to any space!

9. Candles

Sometimes, it’s the little touches that make a big impact! Adding little trinkets and candles to shelves and coffee tables can really alter a space and make it feel like home. Try touches of Marsala with votive holders like this one from H&M.

10. Throw Blanket

There’s nothing quite as relaxing as curling up in a blanket after a long day at work, cup of coffee in hand, and maybe even a good book to read. Show off Marsala and wrap up in this fuzzy throw from Target! It’ll look great on your couch when you’re done, too!

Hopefully you were inspired to use Marsala in your home! Share how you’re incorporating Pantone’s 2015 color of the year in our comments section below!
