  4. Make Your Mortgage Payment with Your Amazon Echo
Amazon Echo

I’m an Amazon Echo* fan. I use it to turn on the lights. I settle family disagreements with a virtual coin flip. And I decide my clothing in the morning by asking Alexa, the built-in voice assistant, about the forecast. It doesn’t even judge me when I tell it to play “Word Crimes” by “Weird Al” Yankovic on Spotify.

Now Quicken Loans clients can even make their mortgage payment in a secure fashion through Alexa. You don’t need to be on your computer or near your phone. You can simply ask your Echo to make your payment for you. We’ll go over how to get the skill set up on your Echo device and what you can do with it.

Enabling the Rocket Mortgage Skill

In order to set up this skill to work on your Echo, you need to first open the Amazon Alexa app on your phone or tablet. If you haven’t done so already, sign in with your Amazon account.

From there, select the menu button in the top left-hand corner. Tap Skills and search for Rocket Mortgage®. Select Rocket Mortgage from the results page. Tap Enable.

You’ll next be taken to a screen where you can sign in with your Quicken Loans account credentials and agree to make voice payments. You’ll also be asked to add a four-digit numerical PIN at this point. This way, we can make sure it’s really you when you ask to access your loan information or make a payment.

For more information on setup, check out the Rocket Mortgage skill page.

Making Your Mortgage Payment

Making your mortgage payment through the skill is really simple. For simplicity, I’m going to use the Echo’s default wake word, “Alexa,” in these instructions, but you can also replace it with the “Amazon,” “computer” or “Echo” wake words if that’s how your device is configured.

Making your mortgage payment through the Echo can be accomplished in two ways:

  • You can say, “Alexa, open Rocket Mortgage.” After Alexa responds, say, “Pay my mortgage.”
  • You can also simply say, “Alexa, tell Rocket Mortgage to pay my mortgage.”

In either case, Alexa will then prompt you to give the house number from your property address and your PIN in order to confirm your request.

While you can only make a monthly payment for the exact amount due at this time, updates to this skill will be added over time. Keep an eye on the landing page.

Getting Loan Information

In addition to making a mortgage payment, you’ll also be able to get other information about your loan, such as:

  • Payment amount
  • Escrow amount
  • Payment due date
  • Mortgage type (conventional, FHA, VA, etc.)
  • Time left until the mortgage is paid off
  • Principal balance
  • Current interest rate on the loan

Public Interest Rates

Whether you’re a Quicken Loans client or not, you’ll be able to access public rate information. This should help give you an idea of where your current rate is relative to market rates if you’re looking to refinance. If you’re looking to buy, you’ll know what rates Quicken Loans offers.

You’ll be able to get current interest rates for both 15- and 30-year FHA, VA and conventional loans.

That’s it! Enjoy making voice payments! If you have any questions, we’ll answer them in the comments below.

  1. I wanted to pay $750.00 on my loan today the 15th of December, but the system won’t let me enter the amount so now I am missing my payment date of paying every two weeks. Could the system not let you enter the amount you want to pay rather than just the total amount.
If you should get this message I would like to see the system updated so it will accept payments every two weeks. I am authorizing you to take $750.00 from my checking account as soon as someone sees this message.
    Thank you for your help.

    1. Hi Merilyn:

Although you can’t make biweekly payments through the Amazon Echo skill at this time, our development team is constantly working on adding new features. We do offer a biweekly payment option. I’m going to have someone from our Client Relations team reach out and talk to you about getting that set up and getting this taken care of. Thanks!

    1. Hi Ken:

If you’re not making your mortgage payment through an Alexa enabled device like an echo, you would make your mortgage payment through servicing.rocketmortgage.com. You login with your existing username and password that you used for MyQL. That being said, I’m going to have our Client Relations team reach out and make sure we get everything taken care of for you.

    1. Hi Thomas:

I’m not sure if this is what you mean, but typically your mortgage payment is due on the first. At this time, you can’t use Alexa to set up future auto payments. Look for future updates as we will be improving the skill over time.
