Intern Alley: Sydney Homic - Quicken Loans Zing BlogI couldn’t have asked for a better experience than I had this summer in Detroit. I searched for internships everywhere, but Quicken Loans was one of the few places that took a freshman for an internship. I was super excited once I found out I got the job and couldn’t wait to get started. I was ready to begin this internship and see what it was like to work for a large company that was doing amazing things in my hometown.

Throughout the time I’ve been at Title Source, there have been so many events put on by our Intern Ambassadors. They’re a great and fun way to meet the other interns in the company. We’ve had numerous events such as a team building day, Tigers tailgate, group photo shoots, corn-hole tournaments, and scavenger hunts. I’ve met so many new people through these events and they make working more fun. It’s nice to walk through the building and see friendly, familiar faces. Then, when we go to the events for all interns in the Family of Companies we can all hang out together and meet other interns who everyone knows.

I knew nothing about title insurance when I started, but day by day I learn more about the industry. I also learn new things everyday with my team and enjoy coming to work. My team was very welcoming when I first started and I really seem to fit in like a regular team member, not just the intern who does all the tasks that they don’t want to do. It was also very interesting being able to shadow different teams within the Family of Companies. I was able to see different areas that I am interested in and see the difference between fields. It showed me tasks/teams that I liked and didn’t like to get a better idea of what I want to do when I graduate from college.

I’ve grown up in the Detroit area, but I was really able to learn a lot more about Detroit throughout the summer. Going on the bus tour and participating in two scavenger hunts allowed me to get a better picture of the city. It was great to learn about all of the new and exciting things that are going on and going to happen downtown. Also, we were able to volunteer during Neighborhoods Week. It was a rewarding experience being able to go to neighborhoods and schools that need help and give back to them. It was nice to see that the whole company is willing to volunteer and make a big impact on that neighborhood, along with all of the others who team members help through volunteering. I’ve had an amazing experience interning here and I hope to come back next summer to intern again.
