  4. Consumer Alert: Beware Companies Posing as Quicken Loans
Freelancer working on laptop when having breakfast

We’ve had reports of fraudulent activity regarding newspaper advertisements, email and physical mail being sent by companies posing as Quicken Loans or even your real estate agent. Please view this sample of a scam fax.

Please note: We’ll never ask for an upfront deposit, down payment or closing costs to be sent through a Western Union wire transfer, and Quicken Loans only offers mortgages. If you’ve received an offer that you didn’t apply for or are unsure about, please contact us at (800) 863-4332.

Fax and Classified Ad Scams

In addition to these schemes, we need to make you aware of a new scam that involves someone posing as your real estate agent.

Real Estate Agent Closing Scam

For those who qualify to wire closing costs and a down payment to their title company, near your closing date you’ll be receiving those instructions from either your closing agent from the title company or your real estate agent.

These emails tell you the bank name and location as well as the bank account and routing numbers you need to know. That being said, you should carefully check the source of the email to make sure it’s legitimate.

Scam perpetrators are sending emails that look official, but instead of having the account numbers for the bank in your transaction, it’ll be the personal account numbers of the scammers.

As an example, if your realtor’s email address is JaneSmith@gmail.com, nefarious people might email you from JoneSmith@gmail.com or JaneSmith@gnail.com in order to try to trick you into sending your closing funds to an unintended recipient.

If you have any doubts regarding the legitimacy of an email, you can contact your title company or realtor on the phone to determine if the instructions came from them.

If you’re interested in a mortgage to purchase a home or refinance your current one, you can apply here or give one of our Home Loan Experts a call at (800) 785-4788. If you have any questions or want to check an offer made via email or over the phone, you can also leave a comment below.

  1. I got a call from a “Julie a Recruiter” from QUicken loans at 313-373-3000 for “remote employment”. Do you know if this is real or a scam?

    Thank you,

    1. Hi Alfredo:

I can tell you that that’s one of the default phone numbers we use for dialing out. We also do offer remote work for certain business areas. I’m going to have someone reach out to your email address to give you any more information we can provide. Have a good night!

  2. 5 missed calls today from 313-373-1215. For the love of Jeebus either leave a message or STOP. I will call you when I’m ready to discuss my mortgage.

    1. Hi Julie:

I’m removing you from our call list. I’m also going to get this to our Client Relations team. We should be leaving a message. Thanks for reaching out about your experience!

      1. I have gotten 6 calls from 313-373-1215 in 2 days with no message left, take me off the call list as well. I WILL NOT ANSWER THAT NUMBER.

        1. Hi Aimee:

I’ve taken care of you, so the calls should stop. I’m going to get this to our client relations team to look into why no one is leaving messages for you. Thank you for reaching out!

  3. Got a call from Steve at 215-861-1364. Left a vm and asked I call an 855-909-mumble mumble mumble. I don’t rust people who mumble. So does mumbling Steve work for you?

    1. Hi Michele:

Steven Dawson called you and he does work for us. I’m going to pass along your feedback on the phone call to our Client Relations team, but please know you’re in very good hands. You can call us back at (855) 909-2274. Have a wonderful day!

  4. Do you have a Marcel working with your company? I am leary because they want a $500 deposit and asked how we will be paying this money, debit or credit? It just sounds too much like a scam for us to want to move forward. We would feel better meeting with an agent in person.

    1. Hi Troy and Donna:

I looked up your loan file, and it looks like you spoke to Marcel Dobine. He is one of our mortgage bankers. I can understand your hesitance, but I can tell you we do ask for a deposit fairly early on to cover things like ordering your credit report as well as paying for appraisals. When you close, and the cost of the deposit is subtracted from your closing costs. I hope this helps! Have a great day!

  5. Hello,
I got a call from Jill at 313-373-3000 asking to verify employment for an employee. I haven’t applied for any loans and I have no employees working under me. She requested I call them back at 800-713-7320. Can you help me figure out where this originated?

    1. Hi James:

That appears to be us, but I’m going to get this to our Client Relations team to figure out what’s going on. Thank you very much for reaching out and have a great day!

I’m happy to report that Halim is indeed one of our bankers. You’re in very good hands! Have a great day!

  8. Who is at #313-373-1309? We were told we had a solid refinance situation and paid $500.00 for an appraisal only to be told our home is not worth what we owe which is ridiculous! This is money we did not have and there was no alternative resolution given by Quicken Loans. We are out the money and the appraisal was anything but accurate!

    1. Hi William:

That number does belong to Kellie Lederer who does work with us. I’m going to get this over to our Client Relations team to look into your situation. I do want to clarify that all appraisers are independent of Quicken Loans and hired through an appraisal management company that keeps a roster of qualified appraisers who work as independent contractors. I’m going to have our team look into your experience and see if there’s any other way we can help you accomplish your goals. Be assured that if there are alternative solutions that make sense for you, we would be happy to help. Thanks for reaching out!

    1. That’s us, Deborah. I’m happy to get you removed from our call list at this time, but I do want to thank you for being a valued client. Please don’t hesitate to reach out should you need anything in the future! I apologize for the inconvenience and hope you have a wonderful day.

  9. Are these numbers legit? They were on an email i got today.

    1. Hi Shawn:

Max is one of our senior bankers and this is this is his correct contact information. Thanks for reaching out!

  10. Just received this text message. I assume it’s a scam.

Quicken Loans: See how much you could save on your next home purchase with the PowerPack deal http://po.st/grfzQr. Reply QLHELP for help, STOP to cancel

  11. Is Shelly Blondin on your staff?
Does Quicken use a file upload service for uploading documents related to loan approval? I’ve been asked to email them…seems suspicious.

    1. Hi Tim:

Shelly is one of our bankers. We do have secure procedures for collecting documents. I’m going to make sure we get this to our client relations team to explain those policies in greater detail than I can here. I can tell you that the security of your personal and financial information is our utmost priority. Thanks for reaching out!

  12. Yes, they called me too. 3133731215, Said they were Quicken loans and wanted to improve my loan. I asked him, how? lower my interest rate? Yes, so what is my current interest rate? Well, I don’t have that here in front of me, but if you allow me to run a credit check. No thanks. I told him that I was driving in bumper to bumper traffic and was not comfortable speaking with him, that I’d call them back. And he refused to let me drop off. Didn’t sound terribly professional. More like a Used Car Salesman…. Yada Yada… ” Yeah Buddy, they are bigger than ever and last for ever. I thought he meant the cars.. Turns out he was referring to the Payments.”

    1. Hi John:

I’m going to get this to our Client Relations team to look into your experience. This is definitely not up to the standard of service we work to provide our clients every day. Thank you for reaching out!

    1. Hi Charlotte:

I’m going to have someone reach out to go over the way this process works in more detail with you. For starters, I can confirm Erik Christmon does work with us.

I’m going to get this to our client relations team to look into what you’re being told about the appraisal. They’ll be able to explain what’s happening in more detail than I can. Thank you!

  14. Hi- I received a mass text message this morning from Quicken Loans. I am thinking it is not legit. Telephone # 760-640-0408 and to call back at (415) 670-9257. I was looking for a personal loan. Thanks Stacia

    1. Hi Stacia:

Your instincts were good. I just called that number and it’s a Google Voice number. We would never use those to solicit business of any kind. While Quicken Loans only does mortgages, our sister company, Rocket Loans®, offers personal loans up to $45,000. I hope this helps! Thanks for reaching out to check on that.

  15. got call from 3133731215 and pressurising why I dont want to save money. Looking forward to completly move out of quicken loans if this continues

    1. Hi CG:

We never want any of our clients to feel pressured. I’m going to get this over to our Client Relations team to look into what happened here and follow up on this.

      1. Hi Rob:

Our clients should never feel like they’re being pushed into anything. I’m going to get this to our Client Relations team to look into this. Thanks for reaching out!

  16. Call this morning from someone claiming to be with Quicken Loans, wanted me to call 1-800-931-5199 to discuss mortgage. Smelled fishy.

    1. Hi Stephen:

We did call you this morning. We do periodic mortgage reviews with clients whose mortgage we’ve serviced and we wanted to check in and see how you were feeling about your current mortgage and whether we could help you accomplish any other financial goals at this point in time. You’re in very good hands and should feel free to call us back if interested.

  17. Hi, speaking with Ali at (313) 545-1203, is she legit?
Got second call ‭(855) 909-2374‬ from mumbly, is second number legit?

    1. Hi Beth:

Ali Awada is one of our mortgage bankers. You’re in good hands. I have reason to believe you made a typo in the second number. One of our default numbers for dialing out is (855) 909-2274, not 2374. I hope this helps! Have a great night!

  18. I received a call from 313-373-3000. She left a message but I couldn’t fully understand it. I believe she said her call back was 313-545-4275. She said she was calling on behalf of our clients Josh and Laura. I do not have clients named Josh and Laura or anyone working with Quicken.

    1. Hi Erin:

I’m going to go ahead and get this over to our Client Relations team to look into what happened here. Thank you very much for reaching out! We really appreciate it!
