Young friends having pool movie night party. Floating on the pool on inflated mattresses and watching movie on improvised screen. Backyard decorated with festive string lights. Night time.

With summer in full swing, what better way to cool off than to host a pool party? There are many options for games, drinks, food, decor and invitations available that will make your pool party stand out and leave your guests feeling happy.

Below, we’ve provided 10 ideas that will make your pool party one to remember.

DIY Popsicle Invitations

Send out Popsicle pool party invitations.

The writer of So Festive! provides a tutorial on how to make these Popsicle stick invitations. All you need to make these are Popsicle sticks, wide paint samples, glue or double-sided tape, and cardstock for the back.

Kiddie Pool Food Holder

If you’re worried about your food getting warm and mushy in the hot heat, fill up a kiddie pool with ice, and place all your food in it to keep it nice and fresh.

A kiddie pool will not only hold a lot of food and keep it all cool but also match the pool party theme as well.

Strawberry Kiwi Fruit Pizza Watermelon Dessert

To help your guests cool off, why not get creative and make a strawberry kiwi fruit pizza watermelon for dessert? A writer from Hungry Happenings provides the recipe for this delicious dessert.

The base is a sugar cookie crust, topped with cream cheese fluff, fresh strawberries and kiwi. This dish beats serving your guests a plain bowl of assorted fruit.

Flat Wine Bottle Serving Trays

Forget serving appetizers on a regular tray. Instead, serve them on a flat wine bottle for an elegant style with a message-in-a-bottle vibe.

Shark Bowl Drinks

Instead of having your guests sip a poolside cocktail out of an ordinary glass, serve them drinks in a festive goldfish bowl – or a shark bowl. This consists of gummy sharks, ice, various juices, soda, alcohol and straws.

The cooking site Cooks provides a shark bowl recipe that serves four to six people. Consider making a few shark bowls for your guests to share. In case some of them don’t feel like sharing, provide extra glasses on the side.

Pool Volleyball

To get everyone up and moving, set up a volleyball net in the pool so they can compete with one another. Get an inflatable net that floats in your pool or one that you can install on top of your pool deck.

DIY Jumbo Jenga

For the guests who aren’t competing in pool volleyball, provide a game of jumbo Jenga on your patio or pool deck. Style Me Pretty Living gives great step-by-step instructions on how to create this game.

Luau Patio Lighting

Once the sun goes down, you’ll want festive lighting to brighten up your party. Stringing colorful luau patio lights throughout your backyard creates a festive atmosphere by adding a colorful glow.

These colorful luau lights can be draped on your patio umbrella, along your patio and pool deck, and on your trees.

Pool Disco Lights

Along with lighting up your backyard, you can add some groovy disco lighting to your pool for nighttime swimmers.

Your guests will enjoy the colors and shapes that will illuminate your pool’s walls – and it will make swimming easier in the dark!

Patio Bar Decor

Freshen up your patio bar by placing pineapples on top for a tropical feel. And for an added touch, you can drape elegant fish netting on the siding of your house or along your bar to give the party some nautical style for your guests to admire.

  1. Pineapples seem to be very on trend this year. I have seen them everywhere in the past week or so as people are really gearing up for spring and summer. There is a whole fashion/style trend going on with pineapples right now at Old Navy as well. I love the look of this outdoor patio bar with pineapples on top. It really does make it look tropical-how simple but brilliant!
