Transform Your Basement with these Remodeling Tips

Basements take on all different shapes and sizes. Some are nothing more than creepy, dark rooms used to do laundry. Others are used for storage, while some are turned into rooms that families actually spend time in.
There are many different options when it comes to remodeling your basement. Some cost more than others. If you’re considering remodeling your basement, I have some suggestions for you. Take a look!
Instead of paying an initiation fee on top of monthly fees for a gym membership, why not transform your basement into a gym? Add a treadmill, some free weights and any other equipment you find necessary and you’re good to go. What makes this option even better is that you can use it whenever you want and it’ll cut out the hassle of waiting for equipment to become available.
What better room for a home theater than one with few to no windows like a basement? With little sunlight entering the room, glare won’t be an issue. A big TV is a must, as is proper snacks and beverages. I’d also recommend installing surround sound because it’s just not the same without it. Depending on the size of the basement, you could set it up like a real theater with different rows. If size is limited, a couple couches will do. When thinking about paint, I’d keep it dark to keep the experience as realistic as possible.
This would most likely be my go-to choice. I’d deck out the walls with Fatheads and have different sports memorabilia all over the place. If you’re going to do it right, you need a big TV. I’d say anything smaller than 42” isn’t going to cut it. While a mini-fridge will do, if money isn’t a restraint, I’d install a bar. If you take that route, keep in mind you’ll need bar stools, which can hike up the price.
During my childhood, our basement went through a lot of transition. At one point, our basement was a family room. It was a pretty basic family room with a couple couches, a coffee table and a TV. The walls were painted a light beige color with family pictures on the walls. Nothing too flashy here, just your typical family room.
If you have kids, a basement is the perfect place to provide them a place to play their noisy games. If their games are so loud that you can hear them in other parts of the house, there are steps you can take to soundproof your home.
Before our basement was a living room, it was a game room. After getting sick of me playing video games on the regular TV, my parents bought a TV for the basement. My Super Nintendo was moved down there, too. We also had an Asteroids arcade game that was a hit with all my friends.
If you don’t have kids, that doesn’t mean you can’t still turn your basement into a game room. Add a pool table or a ping pong table and you have games adults can enjoy, too.
If you choose a man cave, I’d incorporate a little bit of all of the ideas above. A sports theme, video games and a gym make for a perfect room to me. If you’re a mom, go with what you like. If you enjoy reading in your spare time, a mini-library might make sense. Perhaps you like scrapbooking or arts and crafts. Whatever your hobby, use the space to get away and relax.
