Top Holiday Family-Friendly Shows in Detroit - Quicken Loans Zing Blog While you may not be ready to think about – or plan past – the upcoming Halloween festivities, the Christmas season isn’t too far off. Just like the rest of the year, metro Detroit is a happening place during the holidays.

If you were thinking about catching any shows (or even if you weren’t), now is a great time to start looking at different venues, so you can get your tickets before seating becomes limited and prices skyrocket. I’ve put together a list of some of the major shows in the area.

Children’s Shows

How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical:

If you’d like something fun for the kids, there’s a couple great Dr. Seuss shows coming up, like “How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical.” Your children will love watching one of their favorite Christmas stories come to life on stage, and seeing it in the beautiful, historic Detroit Opera House is an experience in itself. Seussical, the Musical:

There’s also “Seussical, the Musical” at Fries Auditorium in the Grosse Pointe War Memorial. This is an all-children presentation of the different Dr. Seuss stories combined into one big show. Forever Christmas:

Along with these fun children’s plays, the Detroit area is offering some great variety shows like “Forever Christmas,” presented by the Avon Players. A Christmas Carol:

Another great show the whole family will love, “A Christmas Carol,” is coming to Oakland U’s Meadow Brook Theatre. The Snow Queen:

For a mystical, magical, winter journey, check out “The Snow Queen,” adapted from the Hans Christian Andersen story by Tyler J. Monroe. The story is of a young boy who is kidnapped by the Snow Queen and taken to the North Pole, and his best friend must come to his rescue. Bonstelle Theatre is Wayne State University’s undergraduate theater; so, come on out, have some fun and support local students!

Brazeal Annual Holiday Concert:

For a great, cultural experience, check out the “Brazeal Annual Holiday Concert.” The Brazeal Dennard Chorale is one of the oldest African American choral organizations in the country and focuses on maintaining the Negro spiritual as an artistic element within communities.

Fox Theatre

The Fox is an impressive venue boasting a lot of great performances. Here are some of the main ones:

Clay Aiken: Joyful Noise:

“Clay Aiken: Joyful Noise” is coming to the Fox Theatre for one day only, December 14. Aiken, of “American Idol” fame, will perform selections from his “Merry Christmas with Love” album and hits from his studio albums, as well as a mix stories, jokes and even audience interaction.
