Do I bring my Kindle to the office? You bet I do.

Do I bring my Kindle to the office? You bet I do.

Have you joined the e-reader craze yet? You know, Kindle, Nook, or even iPad? I’ll be the first to admit I was a member of the pro-paperbacks club. “With a Nook, I won’t get the satisfaction of turning the pages of a book!” I would gripe. “And what about all my cool hologram bookmarks with cats and penguins on them? What am I going to do with those?” I was in a quandary.

Eventually a positive spirit came over me, and I realized I might actually be interested in an e-reader. Highly portable, great for traveling, thousands of books at my fingertips, AND at least a pound lighter than a copy of Twilight? I was ready to sign up. I received a Kindle from my dad for Christmas and haven’t looked back. I take it in my purse with me for those moments of intellectually driven boredom, and it’s my best friend during long cardio workouts. My dearest Kindle, you are a real gem.

Whether you’ve got one and are snuggled up near a cozy fire, or even if you’re still in the “I like books made from trees” era, check out some of these top books as seen on the charts of Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

  • The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins – This dynamic series is at the top of the charts for both Kindle and Nook. Take my word for it: this book is hotter than hot sauce. It may be among the teen fiction category, but the suspense, heart-pounding action, and imagination-invoking plot has kept me absolutely riveted. If you love movies inspired by books, this trilogy’s first installment will be in theatres in March!
  • The Pact by Jodi Picoult – Jodi Picoult is a pretty popular lady in the literary world. She’s churning out New York Times best sellers like My Sister’s Keeper and Keeping Faith. This Picoult creation centers around two families devastated by an unthinkable suicide pact.
  • Ice Age by Brian Freemantle  – No, this book isn’t about a sabre-toothed tiger, woolly mammoth, and a sloth bonding in prehistoric times. Just in time for the 2012 apocalypse, here comes a scientific thriller about the threat of melting polar ice caps. Will the flood of icy waters destroy civilization? Hit the purchase button on your e-reader to find out!
  • Private Games by James Patterson – Ah yes, the illustrious James Patterson is at it again. Reader reviews say great things like “I read all sixteen chapters in one sitting” and “this book kept me on the edge of my seat, and I read it in one night.” Shoot, makes me want to read this murder mystery! Besides, my step-brother and niece said James was a really classy guy when they recently ran into him at an airport gift shop! All the more reason to read Private Games.
  • Kill Shot by Vince Flynn – He’s noted as the number one international bestselling author (pretty big deal), and has shot to fame with his series following Mitch Rapp, CIA super agent. In the twelfth installment, Rapp continues to work through a list of wanted men.
  • The Vow: The True Events that Inspired the Movie by Krickitt and Kim Carpenter  – Love chick flicks? Love books turned into movies that star the oh-so-appealing pair Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum? I do. And I’d say “I do” to Channing Tatum, by the way. This book is based on true events dating back to 1993, when an awful car accident forces the couple’s relationship to start from scratch again.
  • Heaven Is for Real by Todd Burpo  – If you dig books that get your spiritual juices flowing, I highly recommend this amazing (and quick – took me a day!) story. It’s a tear-jerking, heart-warming, and mind-bending true story about a young boy who awes his family and community with accounts of his brief time in heaven.
  • I’ve Got Your Number by Sophie Kinsella – Veteran funny girl Sophie Kinsella adds another chart-topper to her repertoire with this giggle-worthy read. What’s a girl to do when she loses her engagement ring and phone in a hotel fire drill debacle? Grab this book on your e-reader to page your way to the hilarious, dramatic, and aww-inducing ending!
  • Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer – Pick up a copy of this novel and follow the life of Oskar Schell, a nine-year-old New Yorker and blossoming physicist seeking insight in his father’s September 11, 2001 death. A kid who hasn’t even been alive a decade and he’s already a self-proclaimed pacifist and Steven Hawking enthusiast? I think this may be my next read!
  • The Help by Kathryn Stockett  – Loved the Golden Globe magnet of a film, but wish I would’ve read the book first! The Help is a powerful and multi-faceted story about the relationship between fiery homemakers and equally gutsy maids in early 1960s Jackson, Mississippi.

I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to hit the purchase button on my Kindle and download a brand new page-turner (I’m thinking Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close) to my device in less than a minute! Less than a magical minute, people!

Don’t have your own e-reader yet? Both Kindle and Nook have easy-to-use models under $100, and they’ll even sync with your iPhone or Android for that anywhere-anytime kind of reading we all love! I promise even those paperback purists will appreciate the simplicity, convenience, and modern take on this classic pastime!
