Yesterday, two cool things happened regarding Quicken Loans and veterans/the military. First, in commemoration of Veterans Day, QL threw all military veteran team members a really nice lunch. Great food (soup, salad, sandwiches, homemade chips, etc.).

What is Veterans Day? I took an informal poll to see if anyone knew why today is what it is, and what it’s purpose is. Most people had a vague idea, but I was surprised at how many young people (in their early to mid 20s) had no clue as to the meaning of Veterans Day. “A day to thank or honor veterans and the men and women of the military for their service” is the most common response, and while it’s technically true, it really goes much deeper than that.
Veterans Day is one day a year that many businesses and organizations take the opportunity to say thank you for your service and show their support through discounts on meals or products. If you’re a veteran, be sure to check out some of these great deals. If you’re not a veteran, make sure you pass this along to someone who is!
Quicken Loans Racing is excited to announce we will be running the #39 Chevrolet with a very special paint scheme in honor of the men and women of the armed forces for this weekend’s AdvoCare 500 Veterans Day race in Arizona. This year, we’ve partnered with the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) to get photos of neraly 150 veterans who will be featured on a special red, white and blue car.
Each year on Veterans Day, Quicken Loans CEO Bill Emerson sends out an all-company email about the holiday. He thanks Quicken Loans team members who served, reminds us how important service to country is, and always includes an inspirational quote or passage. As a veteran of the U.S. Army, I always appreciate the email, and I’ve shared it on our blog the past few years. So, of course I’ll share the email he sent out today
This Sunday, November 11, 2012, is Veterans Day. And surprisingly, at least to me, many people confuse the events surrounding Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Why do we have two specific holidays to honor Veterans? What is the difference? At Quicken Loans, we keep our finger very closely on the pulse of the military community. That’s why it’s important for us to help spread the word and raise awareness about the importance and the history of this tradition-rich holiday.
In addition to sharing how we plan to support our veterans, I wanted to highlight some of the ways other places are showing their support through discounts on their services. If you’re a veteran, be sure to check out some of these deals.
Quicken Loans is one of the country’s top lenders of VA loans. I’d like to attribute that to not only our AMAZING mortgage process, but also to the fact that we put a lot of effort into supporting the men and women of the armed forces. It’s important to know that this dedication to veterans isn’t just our job; we have a personal interest in this as well. That’s why I’m excited to remind everyone that the 7th Annual Metro Detroit Veterans Day Parade & Ceremonies will be this Saturday, November 3, at 10:00 a.m.
Folks, check out this AMAZING email we received from Caesars Entertainment Corporation CEO Gary Loveman. He wrote about the Quicken Loans Carrier Classic. I knew I had to share it here.
Mother Nature was a non factor as the 2011 Quicken Loans Carrier Classic went on without a glitch and proved to be a fantastic Veterans Day celebration!
