Memorial Day 2014 Discounts and Events

Memorial Day is a time for reflection and remembrance for the men and women of the armed forces who lost their lives while serving our country. However, many businesses take this day as an opportunity to honor the service members who are still with us by offering several military-exclusive discounts. Check out our list here!

National Day of Honor: A Thanks to the Veterans of Operations Iraqi Freedom and New Dawn

President Obama declared a National Day of Honor in remembrance of the countless number of military service members who took part in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn. Nearly 4,500 American lives were lost, while many more continue to handle the effects of what they faced while in service. It’s important to remember all those who have served as well as those who sacrificed for our country. And even though our military has been involved in several operations as well as a lengthy engagement in Afghanistan since that time, it’s still important to take a moment to thank and honor the veterans of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In remembrance of March 19, 2012 and the National Day of Honor, I am sharing President Obama’s official proclamation.

Understanding Bonus Entitlement

We’ve addressed the topic of whether you can have more than one VA loan at a time in our Google hangout, but the topic is often difficult for many veterans to understand. Because you’re dealing with entitlement and maximum loan amounts, it can seem incredibly complicated, but once it’s broken down, the process isn’t as bad as it first seems

Quicken Loans Veterans Wish You Happy New Year!

If there’s one thing I do my best to impress upon our clients, it’s how much we support our nation’s veterans. When we’re not volunteering at the VA Hospital, working in the community to help veterans, or partnering with VSOs, we’re helping veterans who are transitioning to the civilian workforce.

The 72nd Anniversary of Pearl Harbor

It’s imperative that we continue to honor those service men and women who lived and died on Pearl Harbor Day, through stories or history lessons. We cannot forget all that they did, and it’s through their stories and their experiences they will continue to live on. As poet and essayist George Santayana said: “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”

Short Sale Protection for PCS

Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae have relaxed their short sale requirements to offer more protection for service members and their families. Under the terms of the new guidelines, military homeowners who have orders to move do not have to be delinquent on their mortgage in order to qualify for a short sale.

How to Get Your VA Benefits Award Letter

If you’re a disabled veteran, you may be aware of the many benefits that you qualify for through the Department of Veterans Affairs. However, many veterans are unaware of the fact that they may qualify for reduced mortgages and property taxes as a result of their disability. But in order to qualify for these benefits, you need to show your VA Benefits Award Letter.

Quicken Loans and the Detroit Lions Come Together to Honor Veterans

Together with the Detroit Lions, Quicken Loans invited 150 active-duty and veteran military members, along with 26 veteran Quicken Loans team members, to the game for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Not only did they get to form a “fan tunnel” to greet the Lions as they entered the stadium, but they were able to help showcase an American flag that spanned the entire length of the football field during the National Anthem.

A Brief History of Veterans Day

What is Veterans Day? I took an informal poll to see if anyone knew why today is what it is, and what it’s purpose is. Most people had a vague idea, but I was surprised at how many young people (in their early to mid 20s) had no clue as to the meaning of Veterans Day. “A day to thank or honor veterans and the men and women of the military for their service” is the most common response, and while it’s technically true, it really goes much deeper than that.
