100 1446 1024x768 Quicken Loans Helps Kick Off Motown Winter BlastQuicken Loans is excited to support the Motown Winter Blast for the sixth year and is proudly sponsoring the Quicken Loans Taste of Detroit tent featuring flavors from some of Detroit’s local eateries.

The signature winter festival kicked off this morning with a ribbon cutting (made of ice) ceremony featuring Quicken Loans CEO Bill Emerson, Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano and other leaders and guests.  The event runs Friday, February 10 through Sunday, February 12, 2012, at Campus Martius Park in downtown Detroit.

There are winter activities for the whole family, including free snowshoeing and ice skating (rental skates are available for $3, or visitors can wear their own). Artfully carved and lighted ice sculptures will be on display in Cadillac Square, marshmallow roasting is available as well as rides and games for every age.

Professional and amateur skating exhibitions will take place at the Campus Martius Park ice rink throughout the weekend as well as appearances from the Snowmad Racing Sled Dogs. Local country, rock, blues, pop, and soul artists will perform on three stages. For the youngest visitors, the Kids Zone (inside the Compuware Building) is home to a variety of shows, magicians, puppeteers and jugglers.

Motown Winter Blast hours are 11 a.m. – 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. on Sunday. Each visitor is asked to donate a canned food item, a book or $1 to enter the festival, with all donations benefitting Matrix Human Services’ “Break the Ice” on the Cycle of Poverty Initiative.

Parking is available in the Compuware Parking Garage and other municipal parking lots in the city of Detroit. People Mover Stations (Cadillac Center, Broadway and Financial District) are close to the activities and are open until 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.

The annual Motown Winter Blast debuted in January 2005, to kick off the official countdown to Super Bowl XL in Detroit. For more information on all of the Winter Blast activities, visit http://www.winterblast.com.
