He thanks Quicken Loans team members who served, reminds us how important service to country is, and always includes an inspirational quote or passage. As a veteran of  the U.S. Army, I always appreciate the email, and I’ve shared it on our blog the past few years. So, of course I’ll share the email he sent out today.

Good morning everyone,

As most of you know, today is Veterans Day, a day created to commemorate the service to our country that so many have chosen to give.

To men and women who cast aside their own thoughts of safety and welfare, and instead thought about the safety and welfare of others.

To men and women who risked life and limb to protect the very nature of the freedoms that our founding fathers thought so noble.

To men and women who served our country so proudly that the rest of us could sleep under the blanket of the freedom that they provide.

Words will never truly demonstrate the appreciation that we all have and should have for the sacrifice our veterans have made.  The sacrifice of time with their families and friends.  The sacrifice of their blood, sweat and tears.

But while words may never truly demonstrate our appreciation, we still need to say thank you for the service all of our military personnel have given and still give today.

If you have the time, check out the NASCAR race running today in Phoenix, Arizona. Quicken Loans has the car today and it has a special paint scheme to commemorate Veterans Day.  It also has 250 black and white pictures of veterans who have not only served their county but also chose to do a loan with Quicken Loans.  Race coverage starts today at 2:00 pm ET on ESPN. I am also including a video clip that was sent to me by Kristen Johnson, one of our Business Analysts.  It shows us what hard work and commitment are all about when a young veteran works to fulfill a promise to a fallen comrade and chooses to try and walk on to play football at the University of Clemson.

And to end this email, see below the Gettysburg Address, given by Abraham Lincoln at the consecration ceremony at the Civil War battlefield in Gettysburg, PA.  One of the most impactful 2+ minutes in history.

“Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth, on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.

But, in a larger sense, we cannot dedicate—we cannot consecrate—we cannot hallow—this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us—that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they here gave the last full measure of devotion—that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain—that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom—and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”
