Opportunity Detroit: Urban Revitalization - Quicken Loans Zing Blog

Hey Detroit! Are you curious to hear what’s in the works for our downtown revitalization effort? Join hosts Paul W. Smith (WJR) and Stephen Luigi Piazza (Quicken Loans) at 7 p.m. for the most up-to-date news on the D’s progress; you can catch our one-hour show on WJR-760 AM this evening. Here’s a quick rundown of tonight’s show.

You’ll hear how our vision for Detroit is becoming a reality. Deb Dansby, vice president of Rock Ventures, will let us in on the plans for the downtown area. She’s also got some big news to share: Just last week, Rock Ventures partnered with the Downtown Detroit Partnership (DDP) and the Detroit Economic Growth Commission to turn their collective visions into a reality. We’re excited because we’re a whole step closer to creating the Detroit that’s meant to be here – a successful, vibrant and unique urban core that draws visitors from all around the world. Tune in tonight to hear more about the plans from Deb!

You’ll get the inside scoop on the happenings of a long-time local business. Avalon International Breads has been serving fresh-baked, artisanal, organic breads in Detroit since 1997. In light of their growing success and popularity, CEO and President Ann Perrault will be on the show to tell us about Avalon’s move to a 50,000 square-foot baking facility on Detroit’s east side. The new shop will open this summer, and they’re expecting to hire about 100 new employees to staff it. With more space to work their magic and produce gold-medal-worthy baked goods, Avalon has signed on to be the main bakery supplier for Midtown’s new Whole Foods store. You’ll hear about a very important cause. Mary Riegle is the director of special events for the American Diabetes Association (ADA) in Southeast Michigan. The ADA is leading the fight to stop diabetes by raising funds for the research of diabetes prevention, management and a cure. On April 20, the ADA will be hosting Unmasked, the 21st annual Commitment for a Cure Gala. It will be held at the MGM Grand Hotel in downtown Detroit, and it’s shaping up to be a pretty amazing evening, complete with dinner, a live auction and fabulous live entertainment. Check out the ADA’s website to learn more or purchase tickets online.

Don’t forget to tune in this Friday evening, April 5, at 7:00 p.m. ET for all that and more!
