Whichever way you look at it, November is the beginning of the holiday season. This is comforting for many of us in Detroit. The holidays are something we look forward to every year. In the process of staying warm for survival, our hearts warm as well. This November Detroit will host many events to get you into the holiday spirit or just simply to entertain you.
Nights on the Town
“50 Shades! The Musical” is a hilarious parody of the best-selling “Fifty Shades of Grey” book series. It will be held at the Fisher Theatre (BroadwayinDetroit.com) on Friday, November 15 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, November 16 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.
An astonishing hit in Chicago and New York, “50 Shades! The Musical” opens with a book club’s decision to read the popular novel. Through their discussion of the book, the audience is led on a wild adventure of comedy, dance numbers and original songs delivered by a crazy cast and a live band. Be forewarned. As many of you already know, the book has explicit content.
For a date night out and away from the kids, go to the Brian Setzer Orchestra Christmas Rocks 10th Anniversary Tour. It comes to the Fox Theatre (OlympiaEntertainment.com) on Saturday, November 23rd at 8 p.m. Three-time Grammy award winner Brian Setzer and his 18-piece orchestra will perform his classic hits along with holiday favorites.
For a more family-friendly performance, The Nutcracker will be held at Detroit Opera House (MichiganOpera.org) on Friday, November 29 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, November 30 at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, December 1 at 2:30 p.m. The Nutcracker is a two-act ballet that takes place in the land of the Sugar Plum Fairy. Filled with festive music and dance, it’ll be a joy to those of all ages.
The Detroit Zoo (DetroitZoo.org) will be celebrating its annual Wild Lights holiday light display. For 24 nights, more than two million LED lights will brighten the family-friendly park. Tickets are available beginning November 1, and the event will be held November 23-24, 29-30; December 1, 6-8, 13-15, 20-23, 26-30, 2013; and January 2-5, 2014. This spectacular light show will also entertain with live performances, ice carvings, a Lego® train display and photos with Santa.
