Live Downtown Games - Quicken Loans Zing Blog

Today marks the kickoff of the third annual Live Downtown Games, which celebrate the success of the Live Downtown program! The Games bring six downtown-based companies together for a friendly four-day (July 21–23) competition in six events. About 350 employees will compete from Quicken Loans, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Compuware, DTE Energy, Strategic Staffing Solutions and Marketing Associates. They will compete in the following events: field day, an obstacle course, volleyball, ping pong, comfort kit building and a scavenger hunt.

“The Live Downtown Games are cool because they even get executives from all of the companies involved,” said Tom Goulding, who is the sponsorship and communications coordinator for Rock Ventures, LLC. “The Games help spread awareness about the Live Downtown incentive, which is revitalizing downtown Detroit while also giving local companies a chance to face off for the Live Downtown Games trophy.”

The games will kick off today and will primarily take place in downtown’s Campus Martius Park. However, some events will be held at the participating companies’ headquarters. See the event schedule below for locations and times.

“Every year the Games incorporate a new philanthropic activity to help support the local community,” said Goulding. “This year teams will compete to package 500 Red Cross ‘Comfort Kits,’ which will be given to local families in distress.”

The creation of the Live Downtown Games was a joint effort by participating companies and Downtown Detroit Partners (DDP). DDP is the coordinator of the Live Downtown incentive program. All of the participating companies take part in the Live Downtown program, which gives their employees a $20,000 forgivable loan toward the purchase of a home in the downtown area. The program also gives new renters $2,500 in allowance toward the cost of an apartment for the first year, followed by an additional $1,000 for the second year. Also, existing renters receive $1,000 in funding for renewing their lease.
