The government shutdown shows its first sign of easing as housing Republicans prepare to meet with President Obama for the first time since the shutdown began. The bigger issue is the looming debt ceiling that will be reached by mid-month, but a plan has been outlined by Rep. Paul Ryan that would provide a short term debt-limit increase.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average increased 224.42 points (1.51%) while the Nasdaq jumped 67.31 points (1.83%). Also, the S&P 500 rose 26.85 points (1.62%).
