Screen Shot 2013-04-11 at 11.58.04 AMI feel pretty hip working in social media right now because – let’s face it – if you’re not living under a rock, you’re probably a part of a social network or know someone who is. One social site that’s been making some waves for the past few years and is a personal favorite of mine is Pinterest. It’s gained most of its traction through females in the ballpark of ages 20-40, but it’s certainly not limited to this crowd.

As of April 2013, Pinterest is fourth in total users out of the most popular social media sites, behind Linkedin (#3), Twitter (#2) and powerhouse Facebook at #1. According to their website, “Pinterest is a tool for collecting and organizing things you love.” It is used as virtual pin board for anything and everything you’re interested in.  The creation of Pinterest has undoubtedly changed how many homeowners now evaluate and maintain their home and family life. Every room without a fresh coat of paint, shelf with an empty space or over-used recipe is now an opportunity to bring a ‘Pin’ to life.

For those who haven’t hopped on the bandwagon just yet, let me fill you in on what Pinterest is mainly being used for.

DIY Projects

From repurposed-tires-turned-garden-planter to homemade remedies and even forks made into picture holders, Pinterest has got it all. If you have the spare time and desire to create (even if you don’t, you might later), search ‘DIY’ and sift through the thousands of projects other DIY’ers have pinned. Get creative with it and even add your own DIY ideas.

Home Improvement

These types of pins are vastly similar to the DIY pins. Become a master of organization in every room of your house, completely redo your garden or patio, or even learn how to fix your sump pump! Roll up your sleeves and don’t be afraid to make some creative changes to your home.

Recipes, Recipes and More Recipes

I’ll admit it. I am a hardcore foodie. That’s why “Total Foodie” the largest board on my profile. I like to think of Pinterest as my virtual recipe book. You can find a recipe for any occasion and any cooking style. So next time you’re planning a family get together or you have grown tired of the same-old meals, take a gander at all the pinned recipes on the site.
