Your parents always told you to eat your fruits and veggies so you can grow up to be strong. But were you ever curious as to what the benefits of your favorite fruits were? Here is a list of popular fruits and the good things they can do for you.
An apple a day keeps the doctor away, right? Maybe! Apples are full of antioxidants that can help fight off disease and they are loaded with soluble fiber that offers a wide range of benefits. Eating apples can decrease your risk of diabetes, reduce your cholesterol, give you a healthier heart, prevent gallstones, and neutralize irritable bowel syndrome. Apples can also help you get whiter teeth and lose weight.
I think that bananas are the most convenient fruit. You can carry them wherever you go, you don’t have to wash them, and you don’t have to cut them up. But bananas are more than just an easy fruit to eat – they actually have more vitamins and nutrients than apples. Bananas can give you energy and are great to eat before a workout. It is also said that bananas can ease cramps and reduce the effects of hangovers. The yellow fruit is rich in iron and potassium.
Don’t underestimate grapes because they are small – this fruit can have a pretty healthy impact. Grapes are known to treat constipation, indigestion, kidney disorders and fatigue. It is also shown that eating grapes in the morning can help prevent migraines throughout the day. Grapes can also bring down your cholesterol level and prevent cataracts. Side note: raisins (dried grapes) are also extremely nutritious.
I love strawberries because they make me think of warm weather – and it’s hard to remember that when it’s so cold outside. Strawberries are a good source of vitamin C, which helps boost your immune system, promote healthy eyes, and aid with cancer prevention. The vitamin C in strawberries is also crucial to the production of collagen, which can keep away the wrinkles! These delicious little berries are also a great snack for those trying to lose weight and they promote pre-natal health.
Grapefruit is a great option for people that are on a diet. The high-fiber low-calorie fruit can satisfy hunger and reduce the risk of overeating. Grapefruit also has a high water content that can boost the metabolism. Grapefruit also can help with fatigue, thirst and fever. Grapefruit is known as a drug-poison eliminator – it can work as a natural antiseptic for wounds on the body. Other ailments that grapefruit can help with include insomnia, the flu, urinary disorders, and indigestion.
Hopefully you are now convinced that you should be eating more fruit. Let us know in a comment what your favorite fruit is!
