Did you happen to catch NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams on Friday night? If you missed it, you also missed their “Making a Difference” segment featuring the Downtown Boxing Gym Youth Program in Detroit (don’t worry, another opportunity awaits if you keep reading).
Special correspondent Chelsea Clinton visited the gym in January to learn more about the nonprofit organization lead by Coach Khali Sweeney, that develops good citizenship in urban youth through a demanding boxing program in addition to strong academic support and volunteer service.
Downtown Boxing Gym has 65 students between the ages of 8 to 18 in its program, with dozens more students on its waiting list. Rock Ventures has donated time and resources to the gym to help support the positive work they are doing in their neighborhood on Detroit’s east side. We’re excited to see the progress these kids are making and the positive influence Coach Khali has in their lives.
But I won’t hold you in suspense any longer. You can check out the video clip from Friday night’s broadcast below. If their story makes you want to reach through the screen and give these kids a high five, you can make a donation and follow them on Facebook.
