Whether you’re organizing spices in the kitchen, toiletries in the bathroom or blankets in the living room, we all need storage. So why not make storage a focal point in your room design?
As a continuation of our unique room series, this week we’re going to focus on unique storage ideas that make a design statement.
From weddings to gift wrapping, mason jars have made a big splash in the design world. Just look on Pinterest and you’re sure to find countless projects to use up your leftover canning jars. A great way to use them around the house is for storage. Plus, they add visual interest to your space.
Use mason jars in your kitchen to store spices and dry ingredients. With so many sizes, you can get smaller ones for your spices, and long, tall ones for pastas.
Is your medicine cabinet overflowing with random toiletries? Keep all your cotton balls, cotton swabs and toothbrushes organized with mason jars! They’ll look great on a shelf or on the counter.
It might sound a little crazy, but suitcases make for great, interesting storage pieces.
Want to add a special touch to your bathroom? Turn a vintage suitcase into a medicine cabinet! Keep your bathroom organized and give your guests something to talk about at the same time.
One of my favorite storage elements is the steamer trunk. They can get a little pricey, especially for the vintage ones, but you can find similar trunks in department stores for significantly less. They’re large enough to store blankets and pillows in the bedroom, or board games and photo albums in the living room. They’re also great as a coffee table or nightstand. What’s better than storage that doubles as furniture?
Milk crates are inexpensive and easy to stack, so they can be quickly turned into bookshelves or smaller storage pieces; you can find plastic ones in just about any color. Going for a more rustic design? Wooden crates make the perfect accent.
