How to Use the ‘Color of the Year’ at Home in 2012

How to Use the ‘Color of the Year’ at Home in 2012 - Quicken Loans Zing Blog We’ve all seen magazines or heard celebrities talk about the latest color of the season for fashion.  But did you know there’s an actual color of the year? The color experts at Pantone say the hot color of 2012 is Tangerine Tango (PANTONE 17-1463), chosen for it’s cheerful and attention-getting hue.

Pantone offers a color standard of uniformity which influences interior designers, clothing designers, makeup artists, graphic artists and more. Annually, employees search the world for inspiration to arrive at their choice for color of the year, taking into consideration music, art, technology, texture, economic conditions and consumer reaction.

Tangerine Tango was selected to provide vitality, courage and positive energy in a world that’s often plagued by difficult news.  The color is a mix of red and warm yellow to create a high-impact shade that would make any Dancing with the Stars contestant swoon.

But you don’t actually have to do the tango to enjoy Tangerine Tango.  The color is already popular in major designers’ spring fashions and seasonal makeup collections in stores.

But color experts know you probably won’t be sporting orange hosiery or painting your entire house tangerine as an ode to this year’s color selection.  Instead, you might consider painting one wall in a shade of orange that complements your other walls, or even less dramatically, add an accent pillow or floor rug to spice up a room.

While you may end up loving the color so much you want to paint an accent wall, here are a few subtle ways to infuse the hue into your most trafficked rooms.

Living Room: Not only do you spend a considerable amount of time in this room, your guests do too, and the color of the year is sure to raise everyone’s spirits. Consider purchasing an area rug, wall art (especially above a neutral couch), or patterned home accessories like accent pillows and throws (great for placing on seating areas), for a splash of happy.

Kitchen: Say goodbye to black kitchen appliances!  You are an artist, and the kitchen is your canvas! You can find products from well-known brands like KitchenAid in a range of bright colors, including orange.  Fiesta has been using the shade for their ceramic dishware since the 1930s, and many textile producers are showcasing orange table linens in their spring collections.

Bedroom: Tangerine Tango can make for a warm and inviting bedroom when you are ready to unwind for the day.  You can find bedding, window treatments and cool lighting accents like lampshades that can easily be switched out if you prefer a different color later in the season.  If that seems like too much for you, consider an orange vase with flowers as a burst of color that’s non-committal.

Bathroom: Orange is a great way to express freshness and cleanliness in your bathroom.  While you can find funky wallpaper patterns with orange included, you don’t have to take it that far. Instead, shop for bath towels, a vibrant shower curtain and a small sink rug to tie the room together.  For less expense, but plenty of impact, place an orange vase with white flowers on the windowsill, tangerine-scented potpourri or candles on the sink, and an orange hand towel on a tabletop towel rack for citrusy accents.

So, while you may not be daring enough to wear an orange dress, you may enjoy adding this vibrant color of the year to your interior decorating.

I strongly encourage you to STOP all advertising on the Rush Limbaugh radio broadcast. By continuing to place ads on his broadcast shows your support for his rants that are full of hatred and anger toward individuals and women.

Your advertising on Rush Limbaugh’s show is offensive to women, and your response to the criticism of that has been lame. If you want to reach a wide audience, there are lots of ways to do that without giving money to a hate-filled, misogynistic gasbag like Rush. You are hitching your wagon to his star, and people won’t forget it.

Hi Kim, thanks for sharing your feedback. Due to Rush Limbaugh’s continued inflammatory comments – along with the valuable feedback we have received from our clients and team members – Quicken Loans has suspended all advertising on The Rush Limbaugh radio program.
