Last Thursday a small group of adventurous Quicken Loans team members decided to get a different view of Detroit! I set up a bike tour through Wheelhouse Detroit that would take us to a few bars and breweries located throughout Detroit, and it turned out to be an absolute blast.
We started off with a trek through the awesome Dequindre Cut, then biked through Eastern Market and after a little sight seeing, we ended up at Traffic Jam and Snug, located at the corner of Canfield and Second Ave, just south of Wayne State University. This place was giant, and we didn’t even get to see all of it as we headed straight out to the nice patio area to sample several of the different beers they serve.
After resting for a bit and recovering from the bike ride out there, we walked across the street to the Motor City Brewing Works, where we sampled a few of their beers such as Ghettoblaster and the Honey Porter, both of which were delicious.
Defying the stereotypes of a beer tour, Rebecca went with a classy glass of some cherry wine that was also very good! While we were there, we met the brewer,
Sarah, who showed us the equipment and went into some of the details of how brewing works. It was awesome to see how much labor goes into each bottle, and definitely made me appreciate the pitcher a little more!
Upon leaving MCBW, we headed back toward downtown and made our final stop at the Park Bar. This is a bar I’ve been to a few times before, and has many local brews available. It was pretty crowded, and after enjoying a round we headed back to the Wheelhouse to drop our bikes off and call it a night. We were treated to riding by Kid Rock’s sound check on our way, which was a pretty cool preview of how the concert Friday night would be.
The bike riding was easy, the people were fun, and the beer was awesome – not a bad night in the Motor City!
